Now the game forces you to take damage, forces you into traps, and worst of all the entire game feels lonely. No more are there ghosts that die in silly ways, now you have to just hope that one of the million rng maps have a ghost on it.

You may prefer this option over Wings, as both have very similar utilities in correcting mistakes and circumventing obstacles, and I encourage you to choose which feels more comfortable to you if it comes down to one or the other.
This ultimately leaves Phantom Abyss feeling like a treasure chest that’s only partially filled – it has its share of gems that shine brightly yet leaves enough space to make you wonder about the treasures that could have been.
I understand that is due to the servers being reset but perhaps a forced progression reset wasn't the best idea.
Speedhackers already? I may be out of the loop, but I occasionally see phantoms that run at 2x or 3x the speed of a regular person, and depending on what type of whip I'm running, that takes steam Phantom Abyss out of my sails.
